This is Not My Hat (Jon Klassen)

4 out of 5 Stars

What a cute follow-up to Klassen’s This is Not My Hat! Instead of the bear-who-desperately-wants-his-hat-back storyline, we have a little fish who has stolen a hat, and thinks he’s going to get away with it!

(spoiler alert… yes, for a children’s book!)

… The little fish, our thief, he does not get away with it. He thinks he’ll get away with it, he swims away, congratulating himself all whilst he’s being chased by the much larger, original owner, of the hat.

It’s a super-cute story from an adult point of view. I’m still a little torn on the whole let’s-eat-the-criminal backdrop of what is supposed to be a kid’s book, but my toddlers love it and think it’s just about their favorite book ever (next to the original, of course). And it’s hard to argue with the toddlers.
